Into the 19th Century

From the Marriage certificate that finally arrived there are 2 new people confirmed, and another possibility as well as some confirmations.

Arthur Victor Davies married Gertrude Florence Jones on 30th June 1909 at the Congregational Church Wrexham. He was then 23 years old and she was 25, so his birth year can be narrowed to between 1 July 1885 and 30 June 1886 and hers to calculated between 1 July 1883 and 30 June 1884. This should help with searching for their exact birth date.

Both of their fathers are listed on the certificate, though Richard William Davies is given as deceased, so I know he died before the marriage but not before October 1884 (9 months before the earliest birth date for Arthur Victor. I also now know he used to be a Master Hairdresser, which came as a surprise. Frederick Jones the father of Gertrude was still alive and was a Master Tailor.

Another item listed is their address', Gertrude lived at 6 Ruabon Road and as she had no occupation listed it is possible she lived with her family there, from the Commercial Directory of 1951, 42 years later there was an M. Jones at the same address, trading as a Hardware dealer, I would be surprised if it was the same Jones family but there was a Madeline Henrietta Jones listed on the marriage certificate as witness, the younger sister of Gertrude perhaps?

Arthur's address was 45 Smithfield Road, which does not say much, though it was near the railway station, and his job at the time was locomotive fireman, so it could just be fortunate that he lived nearby where he may have worked, or he could of been in lodgings there.

The next step is to check the 1901 census to see if they lived in the same area 8 years earlier, this will also show if Madeline was Gertrudes sister and we will see if Richard William was alive in 1901 as well as giving both mothers names and any other siblings.
